Nice post, but wasted. The "oh me oh my, the sky is falling" crowd is not interested. Their prime directive, in most onstances, is the put down. Any play that doesn't work was stupid, any draft pick that isn't a star p r o v e s that gettleman is an idiot, and that our poster is omnicious. It is a twisted type of therapy that lets sad, frustrated and impotent individuals feel better about themselves. " Look at me oh, I know more than the experts." The degree of vehemence standing as proportional to the degree of impotence.

Well if Gettleman didn't sign crap it wouldn't be an issue. If he's going to pay someone the most at their position in the entire league then there are 25 of 32 teams with better players at that position for half the money then yes we'll have a problem.
If you're talking about Solder then you don't understand my post or the situation the Giants were in. If you're forced to obtain a left tackle in the NFL then you're forced to over pay more than any other position. You need to home grow a Left Tackle or expect to pay fortune. Reese couldn't home grow a LT so we had to pay out a fortune.
The supply of starting quality LT's in free agency is extremely low + The demand for LT's is extremely high + Left tackle is the 2nd highest paid position to begin with = You're forced to pay more than a player is worth.
Look at the list of FA LT's available this year. There are none.
Absolutely, the cost of a veteran left tackle vs. a rookie is night and day. The veteran LT this year is probably going to make 5 times, or more, than the first LT taken in the draft. Getting a LT in FA is almost out of the question. It's probably either Solder or a rookie. So the real question for us is, do you spend huge money on a guy like Costanza who you know can do the job, or do you spend that money elsewhere and try to draft a franchise LT? Then of course you have to decide if it's your first rounder or second rounder you use to go after the tackle. First rounder gets you the best tackle on the board, and you have him for five years. You need to determine how much the talent level drops off in the first 65 picks, and realize you only have him locked in for four years, then it's megabucks time again if you go with the second rounder. There's a ton of moving parts in player acquisition, especially when you have this much money AND very high draft picks. I think I just talked myself into wanting the OT with the first pick.
Dallas has to sign Zak. That’s going to cost them about 35-40 million this year not including a bonus. Cooper is in the 80-90 million range as well. If they lock up both of those guys you can cut about 35-40 million off that cap number maybe more. Depending on back loading or how they set up the contract.
Ogletree will save us around 8 million and Ellison will save us around 5 million if cut. That’s 13 million on top of 69 million. That brings the Giants to 82 million. Martin I think will also get cut That’s 4 million more. Bring the Giants to 86 million. Bethea about 2 million if cut. That’s 88 million.
The cap may go up about 11-13 million. If the above happens then the Giahts should have about 100 million
The thing people are forgetting with Dallas is Jones truely feels great has a super bowl contender in Dallas. He back loaded Elliot and Lawrence contracts along with Martin. If they do the same with Zak and Cooper they will be in cap he’ll in about 2 years
Jones has been two pretty adventurous with the cap and always counted on continuing "boom" times. He'll be in even worse trouble if the cap freezes or decreases, and every bubble busts sooner or later.

rodney27: You're right about the fumbling problem, tl65taog. I just don't think it can be fixed. He had in preseason, has it at a record pace now, and had the same problem at Duke. If he hasn't fixed it in all that time...I just don't know if he can.
