It is assumed, and reasonably so, that the Defensive minded Rivera will go for the BPA and that seems to be Young by a landslide - A confluence where need and BPA seem to be in alignment
But there's some caveats and the unexpected is almost the expected if recent history is our guide.
I concede, at this point that the possibilities can make an already deranged fan (arn't all fans "deranged) get dizzy and approach infinite. Frankly, we're praying that Wash. doesn't get Mr. Chase young, but i think i'd rather they did - IE, if the alternative is four picks in the first two rounds.
But if C. young does get to Detroit, what happens? Stafford is entitled to a good cast to showcase his talents. Or has that bus left the gate? 32 years old do they trade him, go for a QB and let Patrick start a true rebuild. Or with (theoretically) Tua and Burrow off the board and assuming Herbert blows them away at the combine....what do the Chargers, Jags and Carolina do? Likely answer...if Love, Eason and Fromm aren't deemed ready and some QB desperate team (it only takes one) makes Detroit "an offer they can't refuse". They won't.
Bingo, without too much distortions we've created a scenario where the impossible has happened and Chase Young sits at the 4 spot. And if "impossible" means three QB's going first, i submit that "impossible" is anything but....'
Conclusion: The strong consensus is that Young couldn't drop to four. That's wrong, he could. The question becomes would our dream scenario become a long term nightmare? Suppose Wash slides to the fitth spot and drafts Jeff Okudah, who might be the player they always wanted...only now they have three more first round picks. i take Okudah and 3 picks over Chase Young every day of the week. And , let's make is worse, even if more improbable, suppose Wash takes Miami's fith and trades down again.?
The morale of the story...don't overthink this draft, we should be more observers than clairoyant wanna be GM"S. I think Burrow, Tua and Herbert arguably make this a stronger QB class than the touted Mayberry, Rosen, Josh Allen, Sam Darnold group, and look how unpredictable that year was.

- Wash. invested in Sweat last year and they still have Kerrigan (even if he's 32). Maybe they think the pass rush is strong enough Meantime Norman has been worse than Jaylon Hosley, their pass defense was rated 27th. last year and maybe Jeff Okuha (sp?) checks more boxes. Not Likely?... Agreed but still not outside the realm of .......
- Miami wants Tua. There are several QB hungry teams sitting right in back of our capital city that are liely to move up and steal Tua if they get the chance. The Dolphins can not risk having that happen. Imagine if they offer Wash. two no. 1's and a two or maybe 2 two's. Washington is thinking they might still have their choice of Brown, Simmons, Bencton or even Jeff Okuha if they trade back to five. That's a deal they have to consider. if you want to call that "unlikely" well that's fair - as long as we remember that "unlikely" is not the same as impossible.
