First a disclaimer...this has been reported by several reporters (including Boomer E) but has absolutely no solid underpinnings - just speculation that makes sense - kinda!.
Still , it does hold together and opens up a world of contortions and wild possibllities that leave the Giants holding leverage.
The Browns are worried (allegedly, can't emphasize that enuf) that if they take Allen first we take Barkley. Frankly, I don't think that's so bad because a booty of Allen / Chubb certainly doesn't hurt. But the idea of losing Barkley does not sit well in the land of Cleveland.
If they take Barkley first they don't think Allen gets by us or even past The jets.
They have two second rounders, one of them and their fourth (plus) might get them our pick and exactly what their astrologer is calling for.
Meantime, at four we might just get the player we wanted all along Plus a second round pick and that elusive " more". We might even have a shot at Darnold, who might be the guy we wanted all along and positively Chubb will be there.
I know a lot of folks here are going to feel we should get more than a second rounder, but it's only a move up of two slots and given the circumstances and the way the talent is bunched, I'm not sure the move down will cost us a darn thing.
If Allen, Rosen, Barkley are gone Darnold, Chubb, Nelson are still there.
If Allen, Darnold barkley are gone Rosen/Chubb are still there.
We can start to border on the absurd here,,, except these particular underpinnings have a lot of sense provoking them. If Denver needs one of the top four QB's and feels the drop off to Mayfield is a big one, maybe we move down again and take another second rounder. In that scenario we wind up with Chubb and three second rounders (our own, Denver's and The Browns).
You know what's best about that deal?...it makes sense for everyone.
But let's go sweeter: suppose Gettlemen and the Giants have concluded that they don't want a QB, that the choice is beteen Barclay and Chubb and by a narrow margin they prefer Chubb. What a coup. The Giants get the player they wanted all along and 2 extra very high picks in the second round. Coupled with our own pick , Chubb and three high second rounders should stock the Giants for a decade.
I have never indulged in one of these fanciful pipe dreams before and usually they're lopsided and make no sense. The Browns might not have to invest to get Allen/ BArkley and it could fall them if we go QB so this deal might not be compelling. But if their heart is set on those two and they feel we're happy with Eli then they have to consider the deal. And Imagine Denver could have Darnold fall to the them at the four spot. Their worst case scenario moving up to four gets them Rosen ...who easily might have been their first pick all along.
The difference between Darnold/Rosen and Mayfield might easily be worth a two.
I'll tell you this ...the most vile, cruel, self centered, vain/glorious bastard of a poster is the guy who throws something out there and then won't read his own thread. But if you think I'm coming back to look at this convoluted, dizzying, distorted piece of dreamery....it's not happening.
See you in two weeks, I'm drained.
