Orange County would be just as far (or farther) as East Rutherford for anyone travelling from the city or LI. You are closer to CT, but that is split with Patriots fans. And you are significantly further for the NJ fanbase.
The people who are actively complaining (and suing) in this scenario would not be happy with Orange County (or Rockland, Putnam or even Westchester). They want the teams in NYC or Long Island because it is more convenient for them. This has little to do with the name of the teams and all about the selfish nature of "what is best for me."
How dare fans of a team representing their city and state expect that team to play in their city and state! They should be more concerned with the owner’s pocketbook!
I’m pretty sure that Stan Kroenke could have saved a lot of money by building the Rams’ new stadium in Riverside/San Bernardino, but he knew that a majority of LA fans would have greeted that news with a gigantic middle finger.
My point is that I don't believe that the people who are complaining about the Giants and Jets being located in NJ care much about them actually being in NJ. I believe it is a more selfish reason in that these people do not want to have to travel out to NJ to get to the games. Along those same lines, the same people would not want to travel out to Orange or Putnam or Rockland to go to a game either. In those cases, they would be officially in NY. But that would not solve the real problem.
Is the point that the only appropriate place for the Giants and Jets to play is in one of the five boroughs? And anything else is fraudulent?
