As much as I like Daboll and Kafka, I think this idea that they’re going to come in and magically make Daniel Jones a quarterback he hasn’t been for the last three years is a bit ridiculous. It’s not like Jones has had high school coaches and coordinators going into this season. Like him or not, Pat Shurmur was known as somewhat of a quarterback whisperer. Mike Shula is a former NFL quarterback who has an expansive resume as a quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator. Jason Garrett was a career NFL quarterback who was a successful offensive coordinator and later a longtime head coach in a very difficult situation. The idea that Daboll and Kafka have some sort of magic wand that these guys don’t possess just strains credulity.
Nothing’s impossible, but…let’s be realistic.
Yes yes yes!! This is exactly what I said in another thread and what I have been saying. Take the thinking away from Jones. Design players open. If his first read isn’t there check down. If that’s not there. Take whatever grass you see. It will be vanilla but I think this is exactly the ceiling Jones has right now. If they can build him up from there a bit. So be it. Is he the future I have serious doubts. My concerns are consistent play. He just doesn’t play consistent enough to get my vote. Even when it’s blocked right and receivers are open. Jones still manages to mess it up. Jones doesn’t take advantage of plays that are executed correctly. Even if they pass 40 times and 20 of them gives Jones a chance to put together a positive play. He still has no consistency to his game
