Here's my favorite CB prospect in 2023 and nothing is going to change my mind. I'll go as far as to say he'd be my favorite first round pick for the Giants.
Illinois CB Devon Witherspoon
6'-1" 185Lbs
He is an absolute shutdown CB. He reminds me of Sauce Gardner (Not quite). I see him in the 3rd round on most draft boards. Mark my words, come April 27th Witherspoon will be a first rounder maybe even CB#1
- 0 TD's in 425 Coverage snaps
- He only allowed 22 receptions on 64 targets 34.4% (Sauce allowed 48.6%)
- He only allowed over 35 receiving yards in one game and that was against Indiana who targeted him 15 times for 6 reception and 103yds. He really had one bad play all season and it was in this game. He got caught flat footed and beat for a 40yd pass. If you disregard that one play, he only allowed 14 yds/game on the season!
- 16 PBU's on 64 targets is incredible
- He didn't start playing football until he was a Jr in HS. He was a track star in the High Jump. 0 star recruit and played his way up.
- His passer rating in coverage was 24.6 the lowest of all Power 5 CBs. (Sauce was 22.6)
- In 2 games this year he wasn't targeted at all in coverage.... RESPECT
- Ohhh and he can hit and tackle (See Below). He plays the run well too.
I'll admit, he's a little "handsy" and needs to mature a bit
Cant wait to see him in the Senior Bowl workouts which heavily favor WR's
I don't mean to toot my own horn but.............
I was on to Witherspoon last year .when everyone had him as a 3rd or 4th round prospect, most boards had him in the 100's around CB10.
Back in December when everyone loved Kelee Ringo and Cam Smith, I called it spot on.
