In reviewing the Seahawks game, the BBI guy found some issues with Jones:
I put a lot of blame on Kafka for this one, his conservative play calling, but my analysis could easily be challenged and might be completely wrong. Still, I would like to see the Giants open up the offense and take more shots down the field. If Jones throws 4 interceptions, then he throws 4 interceptions. The point is: give him an opportunity to play QB in an air-it-out offense and let's see how he does. Maybe he will suck, but I would like to see how Jones performs in this scenario.
If the Giants want to get a good feel for whether or not Jones should be the QB of the future, why not test him out with more deep passes in a vertical passing game? It doesn't make sense to go with an ultra-conservative passing offense week after week.
Then there's the terrible overthrow of Cager. He also missed a TE wide open in the end zone on another play. The TE was waving profusely, and when Jones didn't deliver the ball his reaction was classic. Bent over, WTF type of reaction. On other plays he threw to the wrong guy and made contested throws out of ones that shouldn't have been. He had time in the pocket all game long until they got in garbage time and Seattle was just teeing off. The WR not getting open is BS. The time in the pocket being not enough is BS. Pete Carroll knew exactly how to shut Jones down, and he did it to a tee. Others will try it the rest of the way.
Watching the game on network television gives a false sense of how covered Jones receivers are. Watch the all 22 views on NFL+, and you can see that Jones has receivers open and misses them, or throws the ball too late. He showed us a fairly good game against Jacksonville, and he showed us a totally different player against Seattle. The inconsistency is one of his biggest problems. I think Shoen and Daboll are going to let him play it out and see how it goes. Nothing is written in stone at this point.
