I think that perhaps the Giants organization should share the blame IMO. The trainers are supposed to rehab these guys properly. Sometimes one injury causes another by compensation. Did Toney come back too soon from the previous hammy injuries? I think that they're being extra cautious this time with the rehab. We probably wont see him until after the Bye week. When we do see him again he'll probably be on a pitch count for a few games. It's going to be more important to have him healthy down the stretch than playing right now.
A recent study in The Physician and Sportsmedicine examined recurrence rates among hamstring strains in the NFL from 2009 to 2020. Of the over 2,000 hamstring injuries examined, 38.4 percent were recurrences from prior injury. Furthermore, the researchers determined that wide receivers were at a greater level of risk for a hamstring recurrence in the same season of the initial injury, and any subsequent season moving forward. Finally, the study showed that the greatest risk for reinjury occurred when the injured athlete returned within two weeks of the initial strain.
Patience is a virtue.
What? WRs are injury prone? Who woulda thunk it?
I'd guess (purely a guess) that there are at least 2 to 3 players on every roster every week with players that are dealing with pulled muscles (mostly hamstrings). So maybe about 100 players each and every week. It would be an interesting factoid to research.
