I'm confused by a lot of things in this post, not the least of which is, the thought of giving Barkley a new contract has already been entertained. Unless the "Let's" in your post is referring to the fans, which have no real say in the matter.
Resigning Barkley is priority #1. And Schoen and Daboll know that even if some of the fans don't.
Even when Barkley doesn't put up amazing stats, he's the focus of the defense's attention. If the rest of the offense would step up their game and not have penalties and/or drops at key moments, everybody wins, and the offense is more productive. That's how it works. That's how Daboll wants to run the Giants offense.
Without Barkley, the Giants are 2-7, not 7-2. Let that sink in. Well, maybe 3-6.
Furthermore, barring death, no matter what happens with Barkley as far as injuries are concerned the rest of this season, the Giants will still try to resign him. It's going to happen. Count on it.
