I will come right out and say this is a rant, no bones about it. My blood has been boiling since the 53 man cut-down and subsequent roster finagling by Shoen and Daboll. The way this team treated Darius Slayton is a disgrace. This is the guy that's been their offense for the last four years. He was out there catching 700+ yards and scoring the most TD when this offense floundered. Last year was so bad, nobody could have been good; but, make no mistake this was the guy who made the most plays. People like to blow him off because of drops, and that's an issue; but, a fairly minor issue when your team is as bad as the Giants have been.
People also say, "Oh, he had a bad camp." How much of a chance was he given in camp by this staff? They had all their bright shiny objects, Toney, Robinson, Golladay, Shepard, even Sills and Jones. Well, how have those guys worked out for you? They ignored the one guy Jones has had the most success with, and forced him to take a pay cut to even stay on the team. That was money he had earned due to previous performance and they took it away. Then they didn't even let him dress the first couple games. The only reason he's on the field today is the bright shiny objects all faded away, leaving him as the last man standing.
Look at Slayton's TD the other day, he made the first guy miss, Hudson had a great block downfield and it was Slayton's speed that took the last two chasers out of the play. It was a 4 yard catch and 50 YAC. I haven't heard a thing of the Giants talking extension with him. If I were him, I'd tell them to go to hell if they even tried to bring it up. But Slayton isn't that kind of player. He took all the nonsense with dignity and as a great teammate. If he and his agent make good choices in free agency, and get him on a real passing attack, this guy will be a 1,000 yard, 10 TD receiver. He is a deep threat most teams would be delighted to have. I hope at some point the regime has apologized to him for the nonsense early in the year, he's earned at least that much. End of rant.
