Allow me, on this day of memorial, to sum it all up.
The flag stands for liberty and justice for all, except a large segment of the population doesn't feel like this is true,so athletes using their platform respectfully decide to take a knee to raise awareness.
Then the president says these "sons of bitches" should be fired (and now deported) to rile up his base during a "campaign" speech in the south because he says the kneelers are not respecting veterans so some fans decide to turn off the games so the league fears it's losing revenue so they make a business decision to require standing for the anthem or remaining in the locker room and will fine teams who's players kneel and will use that money for social programs for racial equality.
And you know players will continue to kneel (to raise money for these programs) and if they don't on the field the networks will put cameras in the locker rooms to show who is protesting anyway and now, because of this regulation, you are disrespecting the players who feel a responsibility to raise awareness, now more than ever. And the fans who care about social justice and freedom of speech can turn off the games as well, and the players can strike and the players union can use these issues in their collective bargaining and then the league has to make another business decision.
And the owners are basically asking players to pick a side, which will only serve to divide the team in the end and ultimately hurt the quality of game anyway and that, along with the aforementioned political motives, could portend a precipitous loss in the fan base as a result.
So, what did they accomplish with this regulation? What does the flag stand for again?... forgot already.
