Okay, thanks for making it abundantly clear that you have only one perspective and your heels are dug in to protect it.
I don't agree with it and the game film and stats (plural) don't support it.
Oh.. and neither does Daniel Jones himself. 2:04 mark:
"he (James) has played great all year. Early on. He's been consistent all year. Stepped up and made a ton of plays for us. He's a really good football player... he knows where to be, knows how to get open, knows the feel for spaces in zones and can beat man to man coverage.... if you saw him every day you wouldn't be surprised by it. He's a really good football player."
FYI, James was literally an inch away from being booted from the team after single handedly throwing the Seattle game with his two fumbles. I know that's not playing the WR position, but he did loose significant playing time the next 2 or 3 games after the Seattle game. Look, I greatly appreciate what James has evolved into with DJ's help, but let's not pretend that there was some huge demand for James' services at WR before the season started. That's ridiculous.
Also, my perspective is the same as almost all independent NFL analysts in existence. That is, the Giants WRs are a patchwork group of nobodies who over the past couple of games, have started to get it at a higher level, yet they are still a very limited group in a variety of very real ways, WHICH DOES MATTER, and I've already listed. Using one stat to make it appear like the Giants WR group is actually a great group, not only goes against what NFL analysts are saying about the Giants receivers, it also isn't correct, as I've stated. You need to look at everything.
And yes, if you are looking at the stats objectively, the stats plural most definitely support the fact that this group of Giants receivers have only come on of late. (With the slight exception of James. I don't add Slayton because for everything good he does, he'll have several bad plays, and for a #1, he rarely draws defensive PI and is at best so-so as a downfield blocker. Quite frankly, I love to see the Giants replace Slayton with a stud #1 WR in the off season.) Last couple of games, mainly with DJ elevating their level of play.
- Slayton has been the Giants #1 receiver and he's probably the 32nd best #1 receiver in the league. Everyone knows he's not good at 50/50 balls and his hands are not good for an NFL WR.
- Hodgens has been around 5 weeks, before that it was a hodge podge of guys that were having various issues. No continuity or consistency from them.
- James was discussed above. He's been solid when playing as a WR, but he does have 1 fumble lost as a WR as well this season. But I won't argue, he's been a solid slot guy. Not spectacular, just solid.
With the above, it seems absurd to make a claim that the stats somehow show a competent group of receivers over the course of the year. Sorry, I don't see it at all.
Pretty amazing that you'll discredit Jones in order to preserve Jones.
Like Alanis Morrisette said, "isn't it ironic, don't ya think?"
