Good stuff Stoney. I'm really dismayed by how this squad has played. We have weapons on offense and defense.....even though the OL is sketchy. The lack of offensive output has been very disappointing from a guy that was billed as an offensive HC. On of the things that has made the Packers offense work over the last 20 years is that both Favre and Rodgers are very nimble in the pocket. They almost serve as an extra RB for when plays break down....or find ways to make time when there is nobody immediately open. That's not what Eli is great at. Eli needs to have some kind of running attack present to keep the defense honest. Even if we do this fast break style offense.....surely we can sneak a run in there to get the proverbial 4 to 5 yards. Although since all of our passes are short in execution....the entire defense is already crowded into the 0-5 yard halo around the LOS.
Dangerous week Stoney. I don't know what to make of the Bucs. They feel like that proverbial 9-7 team that has plenty of talent.....but just can't put together a consistent performance. Will our defense get run on again? Will Eli Apple get lit up again or will he start making some improvements? What will our offense look like this week???
They talk about A "must"game , this is it. A win assures us nothing. Just the right to live for another week. A loss and going 0-4 with perhaps the most talented roster in football will be a total breakdown. The references continue to the R.H era, but there's little comparison. I remember Alex Webster, who was basically a half back, trying to be a HC under Andy Robestelli wheo was a DE trying to be a General Manager under an owner who thought he was in a "gentleman's sport". . When they combined they were really The Redskins, riding with bows and arrows against the Winchester repeating rifle behind barricades. 0-4, with this talent, will be about Wounded Knee, and we will have two "unmentionables". But it would also be clarity and I don't think we'll get that. I suspect we get enough to keep us interested and just enough to extend the suffering. Clarity would mean firing the HC , putting Spags in and moving forward. Clarity would be 0-4.
Quite a different view when you read out of state or national sports type reviews...These weapons that we have been led to believe we have are maybe not what we perceive. Besides OBJ there isnt a player on the team that strikes fear into our opponent and the lack of break away speed in the backfield is evident. Are these players, Perkins, Vereen ,Ellison, Engram the players we were told they are or just mismatched chess pieces?
Yes the offense line is porous but even more fatal are the drop by Marshall and all of the above. The hype on Engram out of the gate led us all to believe we were getting Shockey part 2 who hit the field running and if he was that player what created the need to pick up Ellison? Now dont get me wrong Im not screaming bust after 3 games but we were led to believe we were contenders with plug in and play pieces added in Marshall Ellison and Engram.
Not fair Chiller. I think they were plug and play pieces. Shockey ranked in the pantheon of the all time great Giants. The way his career ended mitigated the impact he had....only LT and maybe OBJ compared. So no, I didn't think we were getting a Shockey. But these were positions of perceived great weaknesses. We ranted over Tye, Randall, Cruz, Jennings, Donnell and an injured Vereen. Emphram, Ellison, a healthy Vereen and Marshall have to be judged in a relative context and in that sense they provide huge upgrades. Yet the offense declines. Realistically third year players Flowers and Richburg should be upgrades of rookie Flowers and Richburg...yet the decline accelerates.

rodney27: You're right about the fumbling problem, tl65taog. I just don't think it can be fixed. He had in preseason, has it at a record pace now, and had the same problem at Duke. If he hasn't fixed it in all that time...I just don't know if he can.
