I’m not sure CT. They may of signed Danny because there is zero guarantee to find someone else and compete. Remember they are picking 25 and the QBs available in free agency are no guarantees you get one. They also made the contract voidable in year 3. To me that tells me there is still a lot of gray on Danny. If they do end up drafting a WB this year or next and he does develop they can still move on. If Danny plays well and takes those steps they have him for 4 years. It appears Schoen is prepared for either situation

I think this was a rather be safe then sorry signing then. HE IS THE GUY signing. It’s just how I’m reading into it

It's probably a little bit of both lazur.

It could be more like: "We think he could be the guy and he may be the guy he's probably the guy,,,, but we need to see over the next year or two.... During that time, maybe there is a better guy.  lol

I mean this was essentially a 2 year commitment littel brothe he is the guy, not a 10 year pat mahommes HE IS THE F"IN GUY committment.

They did have a top 30 visit with QB Hendon Hooker so that is something. But that was before they re signed DJ.  What does it mean?  Anybody's guess>>>>

This was probably just the beginning of a back-up plan in case Jones and his agents said "$45 million per year, not a penny less."

Remember I live in Eagles country. I got immediate excitement from eagles fans facing Danny twice a year. He scared no one.

This may be the signing that ruins Joe career if Danny can’t win inside the division or vs top tier defenses. Like I said. Big risk with only a handful of good games.

Why would an Eagles fan ever be truthful about their opinion on any Giants player.  Of course they are going to say they are licking their chops.

Oh I get it now: the Giants gave Daniel Jones a boatload of money but they really don't want Daniel Jones and they don't believe in Daniel Jones.  The Giants just like giving big money to players they don't believe in.  OK, got it.

I was a naive fool for believing that the Giants actually thought Daniel Jones is an excellent QB. But now I know better, now I see the light......

I just finished googling all the words in your reply, and I think I'm ready to respond.  Sorry if I offended your sensibilities with my terse reply.  Joe Schoen makes $10M a year and is one of the brightest young executives in the sport.  Daboll makes at least $5M per and is coach of the year.  They were responsible for a lot of the play calling strategy for the team.  A lot of stupid people think the lack of passing game was attributable to shortcoming in Jones, but it was actually an acknowledgement of deficient pass blocking and receivers dropping passes and falling down on routes.  Schoen and Daboll, two football minds that I (and many others in the NFL) respect assessed Jones value at $40M a year.  That was the "fact" I was referring to.  I don't care what Cowherd thinks.  I don't know how much you make, or what capacity you serve in the NFL (although I acknowledge your 6,800+ posts to this board).  Maybe you can elaborate on why you think you're smarter than Daboll and Schoen.  And don't feel bad for Jones if he throws 15 TD passes, is reviled and has to "suck" on it.  He'll have $80M+ in 2 years to help deal with his trauma.

you make good points. Daboll and Schoen are the decision makers, and actually are putting their giant careers on the line in a sense.

and kudos to you, for the statement at the end, that Jones will have 80M in 2 years to help w/ his trauma if he fails. this is a classic..i really mean it, no sarcasm intended at all. 
BUT it gives me little confort in knowing that if Jones is a fail, he gets the 80 and moves on, and then where are we.

again, i actually do hope for the best. Im just not loving it with Jones. 

and as said over and ove, get him protection/OL, let him sit back in the pocket and make the tough 3rd down throws.  get him some damn WRs, and a TE....
I dont know how jones will do then, but i would have to say very very good.
because of those pieces are in place and he is not stellar, then itll be bad/sad for all of us NYG faithful.

You don't throw that many millions at someone because you're afraid you can't find a replacement. If that were the case, they just tag him and prepare to move on in 2024. There were multiple replacements available. From vets to draft eligible QBs, there were plenty of other options both expensive and low cost to take. There was no pressure from the fan base to bring Jones back. Schoen and Daboll want him here.

Here's a good statistical analysis of Jones comparing QBR and passer rating at Big Blue View. I think this is all true but doesn't take into account the injury factor of a running quarterback. You're always a play away from your season being screwed.

The fact that the Giants have signed Jones to a big contract and are prioritizing WRs who can get open suggests that Schoen/Daboll have placed much of the blame for the offense's ineffectiveness last year on the WR unit. The WRs are slow, don't get open, run poor routes, all of those factors will impact any QB and offense. The fact that the Giants are prioritizing WRs who can get open suggests that the Giants feel they have a QB who can get them the ball, it is just a matter of improving the WR unit.

More than anything else, the Giants feel that the lack of talent at WR must be fixed in the offseason. They want WRs who are quick and get open frequently. They have a franchise QB who will get them the ball--they just need to create a little space.

The first round is probably going to be a WR, maybe that fast kid from Tennessee.

Question: when has Jones ever played with a quality WR unit? The answer is never. Barkley is a nice weapon but you need WRs too. As good as Joe Burrow is, he benefits big time from having two stud WRs who get open all the time.

Boomer just said that, while the Giants have an easy out of Jones' contract after two years, so does Jones. That he can opt-out or negotiate an extension after 2 years. I didn't know that and I don't know the details but that's what he just said. IOW, Jones doesn't necessarily have to wait 4 years for his next big payday. If he performs well and the overall market for QBs continues to explode, he'll have some options too.
