Red, it is not so much that the anti-Jones crowd are anti-Giants fans, rather the anti-Jones crowd is uninformed, excessively cynical, and suck at evaluating QBs. I'm not going to mention any names, but their commentary is the stuff of comedy. We've heard it all--Jones doesn't go through progressions, doesn't have an adequate arm, etc. But the people saying this don't know what they are talking about and totally suck at evaluating QBs. T.Taylor should start over D.Jones--we've heard that one too, LOL. In reality, Daniel Jones is now one of the best QBs in the NFC and his best years are in front of him.
Look at it this way: two regimes have now evaluated Daniel Jones and they both believe he is a franchise QB. Say what you want about Dave Gettleman, but he did a lot of good things for the Giants organization over the years and he knows more about football and player evaluation than any Giants fan. Gettleman drafted Jones, believing Jones was a franchise QB. Schoen/Daboll/Kafka didn't know what they had in Jones and they turned down the 5th year option, giving them a full season to evaluate Jones. They could have moved on from Jones and gone in a different direction. Instead, they signed him to a significant contract extension that gives Daniel Jones a lot of power over personnel over the next few seasons. In fact, the Giants will need to restructure Jones' contract as early as next season to reduce Jones' cap hit next season. Schoen/Daboll/Kafka know more about QBs than the fan base does, and, like Gettleman, they are treating Jones like a franchise QB, having said they are building the offense around Jones and that he has not yet reached his ceiling. The idea that Schoen/Daboll/Kafka need more time to evaluate Daniel Jones is an insult to their intelligence--these are professional evaluators who can make sound decisions after a full season with a QB.
That's two regimes: Gettleman, on the one hand, and Schoen/Daboll/Kafka on the other, that have signed off on Daniel Jones and have shown strong conviction in Daniel Jones. The Giants fan base is often arrogant, cynical, and uninformed, and has often been that way (see Phil Simms and Eli Manning). As I have always said, the Giants fan base has a lot in common with the Eagles fan base. The fact that two regimes have shown strong conviction in Daniel Jones should mean something, but some fans just aren't listening and are too fixated on their limited perspective to reflect on the larger picture.
