In all do respect CT. I disagree with this
A restructure is something players absolutely love. What happens is the team take a salary Or escalators or both and make it into a signing bonus. The player gets 100% of that money NOW 100% guaranteed. Even though the team still has the cap hit on a later date. The player already got paid. It’s like credit. Plus the Giants only had a few players that had large enough contracts and long enough contracts to do so. Williams contract along with Jackson’s made sense.
I really don’t care how reliable Williams has been. He has not earned the contract given. Not even close.
If Robinson is signed. Williams becomes expendable. Will Joe do that. He isn’t me. Probably not. Williams was over paid then and is still overpaid
I remember that brutal few days with Williams wanting DE money. All the red tape he took the team through to get extra money from them
The year the Giants traded for him. .5 sacks. A half. That’s it.
Contract year 11.5. Hmmmm
Next year 6.5
Last year 2.5 abs only 45 tackles
Way under achieved. Yes he does and says the right things. But he did not earn that 70 plus million 3 year contract given. Not even close. Williams barely won his one on ones last year. Lawrence was the guy that demanded the double teams.
I would sign Robinson. Tell Williams agent. This is how it is. He takes a pay cut or he gets cut. There are zero negotiations. PERIOD. If he says no. Cut him
Williams no longer demanded double teams. Lawrence did. And he still only managed 2 sacks vs one on one. Robinson stats vs Leo last year almost identical minus 2 sacks. For that 2 sacks warrant 25 million more a year? Robinson probably will be on that 5-7 million a year range 40 tackles 0 sacks vs 45 tackles 2.5 sacks fir Leo.
