What exactly is Schoen's body of work that people here are already labelling as successful or unsuccessful, good or bad ? One draft class and 2 rounds of FA ?
He and Daboll are well aware of the state of this team, the state of the other teams in this division and what is needed to continue to build and improve this team. To say that they got a whiff of the playoffs and are taking a step backwards is grossly irresponsible as it brings these experienced professionals down to the level of a fan implying decisions are being made more on emotion than reason.
Aren't there team friendly outs from Jones' contract that are available if needed. Remind me again what the better alternative was than re-signing Jones, was there a better cheaper QB available ? Would a QB be available at 25 or would you have to sacrifice valuable picks to move down ?
Schoen isn't rebuilding, he is building. He is looking at the current roster and making personnel decisions based on what he believes he needs to do to put a contender on the field every week.
As knowledgeable as many here think they are, Schoen has a full staff available to him that have facts and figures to work with. People who specialize in the cap, a scouting dept who can probably tell you about kids 2 or 3 years away from being draft eligible, people who know the rosters on other teams and who may be cuts or hit free agency well ahead of anything a fan has heard of.
As unpopular as it is for some people, opinions may be mellowing toward Gettleman a couple of years after the fact. If that's the case shouldn't any evaluation of Schoen be afforded that same courtesy and give him a little more time before we start judging him ?
I love the Robinson, Nunez, Okereke, Campbell and Waller trade. That DT rotation is deep
