I don't want nyg to be worse, that's an asinine statement.
But Barkley was RB 5 in nfl last year. Quite excellent.
But
I believe this year he does not have that impact as the offense morphs into something less reliant on running and something moreso with passing like the elite offenses.
Look, he is a great , great all purpose back. But not what he was.
centerpiece of NYG offense?, not IMO.
Now, should we spend a whole lot and make him highest paid back in the league..nah .
Big questions.
Is he replaceable?
Is NYG offense better with him, and if replaced would production be the same by someone else or committee ?
Would offense be better with our with out him.. Because it would be somewhat different... Maybe better without having him to rely on, or not.
Obviously some don't want to find that out now.
I do.
If terms can't be met for a "RB", plans gotta be made.
And as I stated, I think we have what's needed to go that route.
Some of you here can't move forward, someday you'll have to w/o Barkley.
Regardless.
If he stays, he better be great.
If we change, we better have plans to replace him and be better.
That's all.
There has only been a few Running Backs historically that I can think of that couldn’t be stopped regardless what defenses did and the Line blocking and the QB under center.
Barry Sanders
Jim Brown
That’s it!!
Barkley is a good back but not great or elite. I can think of a handful of backs that are just as good as Barkley and need blocking and good enough passing threat to allow the back to be productive.
Chubb
Jacobs
Eikler
Henry
Eitienne
Cook
Pollard
Mixon
Jones
All those guys can run, bounce it to the outside, catch the ball etc. but all of them need a few good blocks too. So yes. Barkley is replaceable. The only back not on that list is McCaffrey. And his team traded him away to a team that thought McCaffrey would help get them to the superbowl!!
Personally that’s too much money for a back. That’s just me. If a team has a good Qb under center and a good Oline. Every back above can be a dual threat back and take over a game. Barkley has been stopped and will be stopped again. He isn’t a guy that can’t be stopped.
