I can make the case that the offense has so many brilliant skill players that the O-line only has to be that ...where O-line stands for Ordinary.
But it will be more than...
Evan Neal - based on preliminary camp reports -reached the O plateu and still growing. Morphing to just a "decent" offensive tackle sets everything up.
JMC seems set at center and thomas of course remains a smooth almost taken for granted all-pro type.
Guards and back-ups....fascinating.
Bredson looks like the best of the interior lineman. Does he play lg or RG or maybe he's so versatile that they hold him in reserve ready to go at any of the positions. Unlikely.
And part of the interest is seeing mgmt. play Bredson (not their guy} over Glowinsky (their guy).
Assuming Bredson starts at ORG what does that do for the roster?
Ezeudu at OLG with Tyree Phillips the no. 1 back up?
In that scenario does Shane Lieumuc have a better chance of sticking as backup OLG and center?
Whether Phillips goes inside also affects the swing tackle position.
I like Peart. I think PFF graded him highly at both tackle spots when he was healthy. There's great size and thleticsm with the graduate from U Conn.
But I also know that most of the writers and commentators have Peart and Shane Lemiuex on their Sayonora list.
But assuming they carry 9 thomas, Ezeudue/tyree, JMC/Shane, Bredson/Glowinsky, Neal and Peart...
Tyree, in this scenario, works as the bak-up to the swing tackle.
i think that works and I think that starting crew could move from the good I expect, to the "better than just good' that I hope for.
Having built a scenario that works (for me), I'm willing to bet that it's not the actual roster we'll get.
And that's one of the things that makes the pre-season fascinating.
Your thoughts?
