How is it that just a few of us saw this nightmare coming and so many others ate up the press clippings? How could anyone think this team improved during the offseason when they didn't address the Guards position and drafted a rookie center? Did Evan Neal turn the corner over night? All summer long we heard how fast this guy was and that guy was. I saw a lack of speed and strength on the field last night. No pass rush yet again. Even the few times Jones had time to throw, the receivers look lost and couldn't get off their defenders.
You cannot gauge talent during two hand touch sessions during the spring and summer. I never saw this WR speed that everyone kept talking about. I never saw the much improved pass rush. The scary part is, look at how much cash is now tied up in big contracts. I cringed at Big Dex's contract when it was reveled. He's good, but not a premier DT. He and the entire defense always disappears against the top 10-12 teams in the league. It happened again last night.
I know fans want to be optimistic, but press clippings are a trap. This team is so far removed from being competitive with the big boys, it's scary. Our new GM looks no better than his two predecessors in regards to the leagues worst O line. What the heck is this? This line has been leaking for over a decade. Dallas and Philly drafts players who are NFL ready. Same with the Niner's and other good teams. Our front office yet again is being out-drafted big time. We sure won't be able to address the O line during the offseason via free agency. There's no cash for that.
I'm frustrated, even though I saw this coming. All the warning signs were there. This team has betrayed Daniel Jones in the worst way. I think his clock is messed up for good due to playing behind a sieve of a line for his entire career. He will be blamed by many fans, but this franchise sabotaged him from day one. They may beat the Cardinals next Sunday, but don't be fooled if they do. Winning against another bottom feeding team doesn't mean there's progress being made. It means two bad teams played and someone had to win the slop. I don't see how they dig out of this mess.
