I have largely been agreeing with you. Heck, I’m the one who started the “stick with Taylor for now” post.
There is a line of thinking that if Thomas is back and Pugh helps solidify things, the OL can better hold up and if Jones is behind a decent OL against a good defense like the Jets, it might be a game where we need the threat that his legs provide.
Taylor is mobile, but he’s not the big play threat Jones is on the ground.
Not saying I necessarily agree, but I can see the line of thinking. Jets game might be the type of game where we need 75 yards and a big TD run from the QB.
- The Cardinals game, the defense showed up in the second half and except the past two games, that's the only time the defense really showed up during the season. And the offense hummed pretty good when that occurred.
- The next 3 games, Barkley was out, and the OL went through a series of injuries and poor play both in pass and run blocking hither too never seen before from a Giants team. (That might be a stretch, but not much of one.) It was that bad in the 3 games post Cardinals. Some of the blame can go to DJ, but every commentator said the Giants OL play was horrible.
And you are basing that teams have figured out how to limit DJ's running ability based on the above? I think that is at best a stretch.
I'm not getting into the Taylor vs. Jones thing, because I don't believe it's a thing for many reasons and I don't feel like even having a discussion about it. I've posted before, if Jones proves he's not the guy, probably because he's been David Carr'd by the poor OL play his entire pro career among other prior year Giants team issues, then the Giants next starting QB isn't on the roster.
