Well, I see the Daniel Jones crew has come back after lurking around for most of the season. It's actually a great time for the Jones supporters. He was playing horribly; but, now he can't prove them wrong with his poor play on the field, and they can spend the next 10 months or so blaming the Oline, and everyone else in sight for Jones regression. What they should be struggling with is why when Taylor came in, or the rookie with zero experience, those guys were able to put up numbers just as good as what Jones was without the months of work with the first team. Yet they're the first to tell us how bad Taylor or DeVito are. If Taylor and DeVito are bad, then so is Jones. They're doing just as much, or more than Jones with the same cast of characters. We might actually get crazy and see some growth from DeVito. We see downfield passing with Taylor. When Jones goes deep it looks like a pop fly to center field, everybody has time to get to the ball.
I have no doubt we'll spend the next ten months with folks telling how great Jones is and how abused he was by the organization. But, the bottom line is, Jones played his way into a precarious situation in just 6 games this season, and the team is going to be looking to replace him. Not the fans on a message board, the team. He's a nice guy, hard worker, and great teammate; but, he's not an NFL starter by any stretch. He's never had the mental tools to get the job done, and that isn't something you just go to the gym and fix.
Lets take Devito out of the conversation, IMO he was grossly unprepared to play, thats not on him, thats on the coaching.
Jones faced the defenses of Dallas, 49ers and Seahawks, arguably some of the top Ds in the league, he didnt have Saquon after week 2. Theres no way you can say that Tyrod would of faired any better against those teams anymore than I could say he would of done worse. Tyrod had Saquon against Washington, Bill and Jets, he did absolutely squat in those games, sure he had 2 td passes against wash, but he did nothing in that second half. He couldnt beat buffalo despite the D playing one of its best games and practically set them up for the win, the result ZERO TDS and a blown audible. The jets game prior to getting hurt was just as bad. We arent even talking about the O-line as it would take a whole page to dissect, However I'll throw one name out there that Jones had that Tyrod didnt, Shane Lemiux. If you go game by game, you would see Jones had a worse supporting cast during that time frame. Again, I can not say with any certainty that jones would have won those games, but to use the arguement Taylor had the same players as Jones and he did better simply isnt true.
And just to throw this out there I am not a Jones fan boy, I do think he has played poorly just as much as I know the O-line has been horrid. I wont lose any sleep if Jones doesnt come back, but I still think theres potential in him.
