The problem I see is that there are people assuming that if you fix the OL you automatically fix Jones. I don't buy that for a minute. Jones has four seasons that regardless of if he's playing the best in the league, or the worst in the league, there is no difference in his play. There are a bevy of games where he got virtually no pressure, no sacks, and he still put up mediocre numbers. If pressure was truly the problem with Jones, his numbers should shoot up against the bad teams, and they don't. Jones has failed to throw 3 TD passes in a game this decade, regardless of who they're playing. Show me another QB who's started more than a handful of games who hasn't thrown 3 TD in a game. I suspect that of QB with 20 or so games this decade Jones is probably the only one who's not been able to exploit somebody to get 3 TD passes.
Jones had games where he was rated quite high, even one offensive player of the week a few times I believe. Fixating on 3 passing TDs in a game is your decision, I don't agree with it. One can also throw for two, and run for two in a game and be just as great.
The way anti-DJers frame things just feels completely false at times and this statement feels that way. Bad WRs (please don't give me any cr@p that the Giants WRs were actually good during DJs career, great WRs make great catches, these guys don't, they drop contested passes, or bounce them to the other team), poor offensive game plans and play calling during the Judge years and add in the Giants OL problems since 2012 and this year might be the worst OL play during that span and it all plays into what the front office is considering.
They still may take a QB and I'd be fine with it, the injuries are a factor and I'm uncertain that DJ might be permanently shell shocked from this horrible OL play, but I don't ignore what's been 100% true about what the Giants have been over DJ's career so far. I've posted this several times before, the difference in the 49ers game this year wasn't at QB, I still believe DJ played better than Purdy did in that game, it was ever other position group was outplayed by the Niners that caused the loss. But let's blame the QB for the loss because it's easy and convenient, and go with, get a shiny new QB means winning team. I'm in complete disagreement with that line of thinking. In fact, I believe if it happens, the Giants might very well be just as bad for another 5 or 6 years if the OL isn't fixed and a true #1 WR doesn't emerge, not to mention that the hit rate on drafting a QB is at best 50/50 no matter who the guy is and where they are drafted.
In essence, drafting a new QB won't give me any hope, until the OL is fixed there won't be any hope. I've watched all these college players, and it's rare that I see highlight plays where a college QB does something special while getting the same or less time that DJ, Taylor and Devito have been getting for the Giants this year. Which should be concerning to everyone.
