To me it's not that complicated. Tommy Devito was our only option at QB after Taylor got hurt in the Jets game and then Daniel Jones tore his ACL the following week in Las Vegas. Devito beat the Commanders and Patriots. After the bye week, Taylor was cleared to return from his rib injury but Daboll stuck with Devito vs. the Packers. It was a fun comeback win and Devito-Mania reached a fevered pitch. The Saints humbled and even mocked Devito-Mania in a 24-6 loss. Daboll stuck with Devito simply to see how he would respond following a tough outing. The Giants were down 20-3 at the half vs. the Eagles, so he went back to Taylor to try to spark the team. Giants came back and made it a competitive game. Taylor remains the QB.
If the defense had played that way in any other games this season, there's a good chance the Giants would have won each of those games as well. It didn't, which speaks to the defense being very good against bad opponents, but bad to average against everyone else.
Tyrod was always the better QB when healthy. The Devito spark to the rest of the team lasted as long as it did, but he's started to regress behind this OL too. Which I believe every QB will do until they (the OL) start doing a better job. (I mean jeepers, a stunt basically means a sack with this OL.) Tyrod looked ok when he came in this past game, (a few bad throws, but a few good ones too) but just give him a few weeks of getting seriously harassed and it will be back to not seeing things medium or deep, yada, yada, yada.
Although, I'll give the OL a little credit, they've been 'slightly' better since earlier in the season when they were NFL historically bad. Now they are just bad.
