Permit me.....first, let's go back to your point with particular regard to year one, when the yowls were loudest (but didn't start then but had birth from the moment he was picked)
year one the kid didn't get to work with the first team because this was going to be an attempt to get Eli a final ring and maybe a sure entrace to the Hall.
HOw did that work out?
I don' t think Eli was diminished, I think he was still at his peak or close to it and both Rivers, Brees and the horse in Pitts. had something left in the tank.
Eli had Solder at left tackle....a man who had a boy in the hospital and was not well emotionally or physically...and i mean that 0nly in the sense of playoing olt. Jon Halapeo was the center.
Eli had one star on the receiving corp.....or at least ten years earlier Golden Tate was a llegitimate starter.
The receiving corp was rounded out by Cody Latimer, Bennie Fowler, Russell Shepard and Cody Coleman.
A very good perhaps HOF quarterback looked at that ensemble and QUIT.
So without a preseason (at least as a starter) and with a crew that make the three stooges looks like Hercules, Appolo and Zeus, the kid takes over the controls and sets rookie records.
Oh my god, he had turnovers. Turnover caused if not at least exacerbated, by ferocious almost unchecked rushes and by trying to do too much.
You guys watched that year and it was tinder to a California summer forest fire.
Your minds were made up, and like asphalt already hardened or epoxy hardened.
You've never given a fair look. I don't know if he 's a franchise qb or not, but damn I want to see him have a fair chance to show what he can do.
Then I'll make my judgements.
And I like some of the tools around him next year. I like the WR's, alot. I even don't think the immortal Bennie Fowler, Cody Latimer and Golden Tate would start........lol.
A good draft, as always Neal and I think Bellinger have to come through.
Give me that set up and if he can't perform....you're right, even if you were wrong. And that's my final word said Yogi, except for the rest.
