Love the optimism. I don't agree that we had a 10 win team the way the majority of the OL play went last season. We had the D to potentially win 10 games but the O was historically poor. They did finally put things together in the last 4 games and had some moments here and there with DeVito, too.
I'm feeling better with the guys that we have been adding to the OL and even the TE room. We haven't had true 'tough' TEs for a while now that could hold a block consistently. Maybe Waller comes back. I'm at peace if he doesn't. I like philosophically going to maybe a more traditional style D and using an old fashioned strong front 4 to generate pressure. I liked Wink's D.....but his D is tricky to target players for. I am thrilled to have Burns here. I'm curious to see how Burns does and how Thibs can potentially grow from that and also having Dexy take on blocks. Keep Olujari around as the backup edge guy and maybe an energy boost at times.
The QB is definitely the biggest question mark. On one level, DJ has to know that if he doesn't produce this year, he's done b/c the Giants can get out of his contract after this season with minimal damage. So you would figure he will continue working to try and make himself better.
That being said, I still haven't seen what I think are attributes of next level successful pocket QBs. I haven't seen great recognition of what the defense gives him.....he holds on to the ball when you can argue he should just get rid of it......staying on one receiver and not getting through progressions. The OL hasn't helped.......maybe the WR room hasn't been consistently running correct routes. But I personally haven't seen these things.....so DJ has to show he can get the job done.
