I use that line about football being a game of respect that a team earns. It came from a D1 college coach, on being asked about rankings. He said "In football, you get the respect you earn". And the Giants, especially on offense, haven't earned anyone's respect.
I'm not saying this to be hateful, I'm saying it to be soberingly honest - there's not a single defense in this league afraid of Daniel Jones. None. The other DC's in this league can't wait to face the Giants, they know that's the week they can try a bunch of things to see what they can do (like Flores did), and there's very little threat of a playmaker QB beating them. There is a reason Jones was ranked the 32nd best starting QB. Nobody respects Jones because he hasn't earned it. A dude who gets tackled by the grass doesn't get respect. A dude who stares down his read, runs into sacks, and otherwise holds the ball too long doesn't get respect. The one guy DC's did respect on this team - he plays for Philly now. (right, wrong, or indifferent, that's the facts). NOBODY is scared of Darrius Slayton. Nobody is scared of Wan'dale Robinson, or Jaylin Hyatt. They have proven nothing in this league. People on this board think they are good. Not other teams. Until this offense makes defenses pay for disrespect, the Giants are the kid in school who the bully will keep taking lunch money from. That's how it works in football, and it starts with the QB.
I like Yogi Berra's quote better. He was asked how to win more baseball games by a reporter, to which he replied "score more points that the other team". (yes, you had to have been around in the 70's to appreciate that Yogi Berra-ism) But yup, anyways, I agree 100% with what you said. Schoen had the opportunity to have made the offense 2 dimensional by keeping Barkley, but preferred to make it easier for opposing defenses by switching the one dimensional side... If you look at the PFF numbers, the o-line was marginally upgraded... I felt that Jones ran too much and got hit too much in the Vikings game... I am not expecting Jones to finish out the season uninjured if he continues to have to run the ball like he did last Sunday, that neck or knee is going to flare back up. Nabors is a WR1, all the rest of the guys are WR3. Theo Johnson could not catch a football to save his life.
Now, had the score been close the Vikings would have destroyed to O-line and DJ with it. Daboll needs to figure out how to win football games...
I'm not old enough to remember Yogi as a player, he was a manager when I was a kid in the 80's. That said, I am very familiar with Yogi-isms. It always makes sense, if you look at it right. LOL
