Most places have one party rule. See, I would say to that that no, New York is not a great place if you don't like Democrats; I live in Manhattan and there's no chaos, that's just the media; the bail thing is a problem but the crime rate is still pretty low in NYC and very, very low upstate; the sanctuary thing has slowed down a lot and hopefully those people will all find work soon because we need them to deliver our groceries; I have a gas stove and oven that I use all the time and nobody's taking it away. And I've definitely gotten back more than the additional that I've paid in taxes by living here.
But that's why we don't talk politics!
OTOH it's seems like a good climate change refuge. Upstate NY has more fresh water than anywhere in the world.

I don't have a gun and have never personally owned or wanted a gun. I've shot lots of guns at ranges or in the woods. I'm not opposed to guns, I just have never felt the need for one.
NYC is very safe overall and if you avoid certain areas that you probably wouldn't go to anyway it's literally one of the safest cities in the country. Crime is definitely down from two years ago, which only seemed high then compared to before when crime was very, very low. The murder rate is lower than Rochester. The overall violent crime rate is less than two-thirds of Rochester's, and again that includes all the high crime neighborhoods you would never go to:
