I live in a type of cocoon, busy and turned off by the NFL I watch the Giants exclusively and yesterdays game was an eye opener. The league has dramatically changed and you don't get a sense of that with the limited exposure the Giants provide.
In a season where I've been wrong about everything, my "wrong" list keeps growing. When he first came up I thought Wilson was a bus driver and profited from a great cast and coaching. But he can play. Some can run, some can scramble (there's a difference), some have a feel for the game and some don't. And some have cannons and some have cannons that are accurate and accurate on the run. He makes all those check lists. Every snap is filled with potential for excitement. And here's the thing, the kid (rookie) on the other side had excesses of the same assets. Rogers' is still in a different league, but these kids are right there, and, more importantly, playing the game the same way.
It was exciting to watch, particularly because I didn't have a rooting interest and could just admire. But it brought another thought. We've been gashing and gnashing JR and Mac, maybe the problem is really Eli. There's times in every game where a single play can make the difference. And maybe Eli can't turn that near sack into a first down and an immediate psychological boost - and maybe you can't play the game today without that art.
Of course, there's been times when flashy and athletic QB's produced gasps and looked like the future, but the game always settled back on the pure drop back QB like Brady. But just because it's always been, doesn't mean it's always going to be. And I think we're at that tipping point, Brady is a dinosaur, the last Mammoth dying in Siberia while the smaller more elusive mammals are able to evade the Clovis tip spear.
And that brings up another question: Does Webb have a special mobility or have we drafted according to an outdated profile?
