The defining game last year was The indy Game...away and against a team fighting for the playoffs Saquon ran for the grand total of 47 yards. Without OBJ a determined and competent defense (it has to be noted that Indy was on a 9-1 run & hadn't allowed a 100 yard rusher all year) the villains were able to bring the safety's up and neutralize The brilliant Barkley.
Conclusions are never as conclusive (sic) as we'd like them to be and it has to be noted that we still put up 27 pts. and that next years offensive line is remarkably improved. Still it seems critical that The G'Men establish a long striding, grass eating threat that can take the top off a defense and force the safety's to honor the Home Run threat.
Golden TAte was a surprising wrong answer to the right question; the man was ineffective at Philly because they lacked the threat on the outside and the brass down thee unloaded Tate and significantly brought back DeShawn Jackson.....one of the fastest WR's to ever play the game.
OK, so while it might not be exactly critical, the loss of OBJ is going to be felt and while no one that we'll ever see again in blue will match his brilliance, a good WR could make this offense dominant....with Eli The Master of play action at his best.
Latimer and Fowler are competent, but they're likely not the answer. Corey is likely potential and always will be. Enter Darius, Savor DArius, cloaked in a fifth rounder's expectations and the priceless piece of art acquired at a garage sale for 50 cents and a "maybe". 10 inch hands on very long arms, 4.34 speed, good routes, almost records YAC in college, good height and a pre-season pre season that had his coaches drooling and effectivey made Gettleman put on two inches of height and Socrates like baldness.
Not so fast, the man is gangly, thin, doesn't block well (on a group of WR's that generally does), and, says the book, can be pushed around by aggressve cover corners. Perhaps the essential OTA performer who wilts in full sunlight.
Pass rush, Halapio and a WR that forces respect - those are the questions for this Giant editiion. I"m confident that the first two will be answered effectively, so, to my way of thinking, the season might depend on a fifth round draft choice that dropped a lot of passes in college and might not be physical enough for the NFL.
Assuming I'm even partially right, it makes training camp - among other things - alot about the question.. Darius: Tease or Steal?
