What Happened. It is both the title to Hillary Clinton's book and to Ben McAdoo's game plan. Except we may have to add the ? to Ben's biography. I am not making much of that first effort just as the Giants did not give is much to look at. The defense was on it's heals and thus did not have any fun. Fun is actually a big part of football and a big part of our defense. When we do not have our swag when we do not talk it up and do not have fun... nothing much good happens. JPP did not have a good game and he is usually our vocal leader. The Spags designed defense was not correct. Almost every time we had our arms around their running back he had the marvelous ability to fall forwards. That inner balance and knowledge of when to spin lunge and fall forwards, i's a lost art in the running back position and the Cowboy's Zeke Elliot excels at it. You must penetrate and force him wide you must make a mess out of the backfield, the Giants preferred to stay in their lanes and they paid dearly for it. Snacks without Hankins does not look to be the same player. Not after game one anyway. Just about zero blitzes and as much effort this was a vanilla and weird game plan from the defensive side, one that felt entirely reactionary it didn't dictate or force the Cowboys to do anything. Kind of embarrassing. Eli Apple remains a quandary, a weak spot and a target for other quarterbacks- we just can't have that. Often the Giants get themselves into a quagmire of having to justify a draft pick. Consider Bromley. Here again we seem destined to have Apple on the field-- though what has he showed us really? How many picks now? Eli Apple is wearing a stupid clown mouthpiece that makes it look like he was just punched in the face. is that a good look? It's not scary. It's cartoonish. The defense can and will play much better. Now what of the offense?
We now have a long history of not scoring points... it's six games or more of 17 or less... How can McAdoo look himself in the mirror. How does he jump on that little stool and look at himself in the morning. Is a fraud looking back? Where are the deep downfield attempts? Where are the middle length attempts? Where are the attempts? Sure it's tough to get a ground game going when you are never on the field, but what of all these games with no decent scoring? The list of options he holds in front of his face appears to get longer and longer yet the plays called on the field are the same sorry set. The passes six yards or less. There is much to be alarmed about on offense. The biggest problem- Tight End. Didn't make a whit of difference. I am beyond surprised and JR better not of sold us fans a bill of goods here, this better get a lot better and fast with Engram. Did he not get open. Can he not separate? What happened? How do you not catch any balls when you are the very position Eli has been yearning for. We must let the offense settle in with Beckhum if for no other reason than the attention he always gets ought to free up Engram... then if no catches we are going to have a serious problem. Speaking of serious problems lets talk offensive line.
It was just a slap in the face to us fans to start the exact same group. A real slap in the face. Where was the change? Presumably you got DJ Flucker for a reason-- Why the heck was he not starting? Common Jerry just because you gave more money to your namesake- John Jerry? That's the reason. Where is the short guy from Canada? Well he's not ready we know that but couldn't we pretend he's almost good? He does seem to try. Flowers has by this point showed himself to be only a right tackle not left. Yet here we are trying to fit his square head into a round hole. If we had only picked up someone decent to play LT-- we had $10 mil to spend yet no bodies? Why?
Alright we are going to let that game go as a complete farce-- but one little aspect needs to be zeroed in on. That Eli Manning that we saw is one that was told to take the Patriot pre season off and just do homework on the Cowboys. Yup that performance was two weeks of Eli film review... And THAT has got to scare Giant fans. Given extra time, extra film and extra help this is the performance we got from Eli. And by the way Why was eli wearing a glove on his left hand in 80 plus degree heat? Indoors? I have a strange feeling we will see one of two things next game against the Lions-- eli without the glove on... or the reveal that we have another JPP situation on Eli's left hand.
In summing up. The season and the whole BBWC web site appears to have gotten off on the wrong foot. Are we now in the right place? I hope so it wasn't easy getting here and proving that I was not a robot. In fact after 15-20 minutes of trying to get in here I felt like a robot. I think I am in. I think this is the correct place now-- Where Giant fans talk about wins not losses. It is still A Perfect Season. Perfection is not about wins and losses. The Norse God Thor will tell you that, he had the most beautiful, perfect bride with a huge head of golden hair and all that hair was taken away-- and she was still fine. So much so that Thor when faced with an ultimate choice-- chose to get his hammer back over his own wife's hair. And so the Giants too will get the hammer back here and hammer out the perfect season for us fans. What is a perfect season-? This all started as most great quests do - in a bar. What would you call winning the division, going to the playoffs and winning a game or two And seeing Dallas fire their head coach? That was the question posed and to a group of us Giant fans that seemed like a perfect season.~stoney
