I think those words are dead on. The streak had to be put to a stop for the sake of the team.
All of these former players and Tom Coughlin all of their reasoning for Eli are based on what a good soldier he has been, how ' humble' he has been the things he has done in the past. Absolutely not one word was in the present tense from anyone.
Team is present tense. There has to be a future after Eli and if we can't get there in a two win season when can we?
The biggest villain here is John Mara. There was a much better way to handle this and for some reason it was not done the right way.
The right way: Eli Manning has been a great NY Giant for many years, we do not feel in a season such as this that he should be exposed to excessive personal injury, Nor should all his passing records go askew as he becomes a 500 Quarterback by hanging around too long. We don't want records like the only QB with 600 losses for one team coming Eli's way, we don't want Eli to play his way out of Canton and the Hall of Fame.
We are getting nothing out of this season except injuries and the last thing we want to do is injure Eli Manning. Eli is still the Captain, Eli is still the #1 quarterback. We are going to finish out this season and address the offensive line in the draft and free agency period. Expect as much money as we spent on the defense last year, to be spent on the offense this year. Eli Manning will start next year but there will be no guarantees. Just like today Eli could be sit down next year if things don't change. We feel we owe Eli the very best we can provide for him so that he can leave on his own terms and with a glint in his eye. Not a tear.
INSTEAD WE GOT--
" John Mara Did Not Come Into The Building Today "- Eli Maning on the day of his benching after 13 years.
Direct Those Boo's towards the owners box folks... John Mara has lost it and NO we don't want Chris Mara to Be GM!
Whoops! Did I let that out! ~stoney
