McCarthy is realistic, but 'meh'. Sign me up for Jim Harbaugh......he might find himself available if he doesn't turn things around soon at Michigan. I don't think we'd have to give him full control to come aboard.
Rhule is an interesting one. Realistic get.......probably not landing a top College spot......I'd live with that. Maybe that Tom Herman guy would have some interest over at Texas. He might get kicked out of there at some point........I wouldn't hate bringing him aboard.
I'm going to be on an island with this one.....but I wouldn't hate if we brought in Lovie Smith. He's Coaching at Illinois right now. I'll keep Shula as DC, bring Lovie in and whomever he wants as DC. I might even take Lovie over McCarthy.
The other college guys aren't coming.......Riley, Shaw, Saban, Ferentz. It's just not happening. I'm not even looking at that.
Ugh.......if Jason Garrett did come available, I wouldn't hate that hire, but I wouldn't love it either.
I don't know.......wish Arians would become available....I'd love to have him on board....but that's not happening.
For now......I have a hard time seeing Shurmur losing his job in 2019 outside of finishing 3-13.
Why would you want lovie smith?
14. LOVIE SMITH, ILLINOIS
2019 salary: $5 millionThe former Chicago Bears coach might have a hefty price tag, but he sure doesn’t have a hefty win total. In three years as the Fighting Illini head coach, Smith has won only nine games, never winning more than four in the span of a season. Despite the lack of success, he got a contract extension through 2023 in what appeared to be a move to alleviate the massive buyout on his contract. Smith is going to need more wins to justify his price tag. Tommy Gilligan/USA Today
Lovie Smith went 81-63 as a Bears Head Coach. He took a team with Rex Grossman as QB to the Super Bowl. I feel like he would be a respected guy that could stabilize the defense and have the best offensive personnel he's ever had. Yes......he had 2 poor years in Tampa. I don't even take his Illinois Coaching career into consideration b/c that school does not compete for the Top Echelon College talent. He didn't forget how to Coach a winning team. He's also been on a Super Bowl winning team Coaching staff. I'll take my chances if he were to become available.
