Solder was the 7th rated offensive tackle in the league heading into 2018. Overpaid, 100%. DG is the GM and he wanted to beef up the line with good players, not mediocre....no one could have predicted Solder would have played as he did at the beginning of last season and to say otherwise is BS IMO. So I suppose we will agree to disagree. Last I will say on this.
They could have done more research or here’s a thought, DG is supposed to be some drafting wizard when it comes to O linemen, how about he uses that #2 pick to trade back, gain more picks and get a rookie LT like a team that is truly rebuilding should have done. But no, he overestimated the talent on this team when even Ray Charles could see how much trouble they were in, and goes against his own philosophy of building from the inside out by drafting a RB at #2.
As much as I love Barkley, it was clear as day that by the time this team gets it’s act together, if it ever does, Barkley will be up for a new contract and may be on the downside of his career like most (not all) RB’s. We now have 3 positions on the O line that need major upgrades, he’s had two years to fix it and all he’s done (minus Zeitler and Hernandez) is pay a ridiculous amount of money to an inconsistent LT, pay a dumb amount of guaranteed money to a guy he cut half way through the season, picks up a RT with an injury history and was never that good to begin with and once again over estimates the talent at center.
2 years, several top picks and he has almost nothing to show for it on the O line. Not to mention, after drafting Barkley, our most dangerous weapon, the O line should have been the number one priority and he’s playing musical chairs because he doesn’t know what the hell he’s doing. But hey, he recognizes his several mistakes so lets keep him around to watch him keep trying to fix what he screwed up in the first place.
This wasn’t directed specifically towards you, so don’t take it personal. Just a rant in general.
