Folks: get over the loss. I told you this would be a rebuilding year with very few wins and yet people don't stop bitching and moaning about the losses. Yeah, you lose games with a rookie QB, especially a QB from a program like Duke who isn't getting much help from the OL. The defense is another problematic area and will probably lag behind the offensive rebuild. However, drafting C.Young would greatly expedite the defensive rebuild.
The Giants have 7 games left, four of the seven are easy losses: Bears, Packers, and the Eagles twice (The Bears are struggling, but they play the Giants at home).
That leaves 3 games against lousy teams: Jets, Redskins, Dolphins.
To get C.Young, the Giants will need to finish with no more than 3 wins IMO. That means they must lose 2 out of 3 against the Jets, Redskins, and Dolphins. Will that happen? Probably not. The Giants will likely win 2 out of 3 or maybe 3 out of 3 giving the Giants 4 or 5 wins.
Even though I realize the Giants are desperate for an OT, if they finish with 3 wins and have the opportunity to draft C.Young, they have to take Young over the OT prospects. Young is too good to pass on. In this scenario, the Giants will need to use free agency and their second round pick on the OL.
If the Giants finish with 4 or 5 wins, they will be in a perfect spot to take one of the top OT prospects as Young will be off the board. This is the most realistic outcome simply because I don't see the Giants losing 2 out of 3 to the miserable Jets, Redskins, and Dolphins. Then again, the Giants James Bettcher defense gives up so many big plays that you can't totally rule it out.
Long story short, if you want C.Young, a guy who could be as great as Bruce Smith, you should be rooting for the Jets to beat the Giants.
