Well...firing a coach that has a record that is going south again after providing at least a better team on paper gives DG and the owners an out. But its not the Giants way. They will wait until EOY and re-evaluate. I don't like shuffling coaches and GMS but I don't believe in Dinosaur Dave's approach anymore as I was giving him some time. The Hog Molly march is a total failure in year 2 as he was more focused on trading up to get a CB who is not good (yet)
But I do think the owners aren't that stupid to see the following:
Shurmurs job is to inspire and coach the players and coaches up to to get the best out of them...and to be more prepared than the other team
Talent gets you far but execution and preparing more than the other team gets you wins.
1. When a coach has to put down ultimatums down on "play better or else" , they have to come through on that threat. Who is Shurmur sitting down after the bye week? To take this further, a head coach shoould NEVER have to go to this extreme to get players to play. Its a sign of not having control of your team Anyone who has played sports whether high school or college knows that "feeling". Its bad news
2. Planning. When i heard Eric Smith was playing LT when Solder got hurt, I started to whince. (I was listening to the game as I was out of town on radio)
Do you think the Patriots or Ravens or would be in a position where they didn't plan ahead that with being thin at OL (Halapio and Remmers out) what are our plan A, B, C's for backups? Why wouldn't you stick Gates at LT who has more expereince and shift Smith to the RT and ALSO provide TE blocking help
if the link below works, you will see how Smith just gets abused. Even worse is the offensive play call where our own guys are (3 of them) are criss crossing against themselves as this was not the coverage that the play was called for (could be a Daniel Jones issue not changing the call or Shurmur). Regardless its just a joke of a play
3. Head Coaching. Put the OC stuff down or lose your job. The HC needs to be coaching up his coaches and helping the entire team improve. He can't even do the OC job properly so if he is going to be granted a stay of execution, we need to hire a top OC and he needs to be the supposed QB guru he says he is. I heard a piece on ESPN addressing this. What QB whisperer has worked out as a HC? NONE. Coach the team to save your job and do it well or face the music.
