I always analyze footage before the draft and I will do so. Having a high draft pick makes it easier since the amount of possibilities shrinks. I have watched VERY little of the top OT prospect Andrew Thomas, but I have seen things in his game that I do not like. Specifically allowing guys into his body and not using his arms to create separation and not punching guys with his hands. That's scary to see. Because this guy is big just like Ereck Flowers and that lack of arm punching and allowing guys into his body... it reminds me of Ereck Flowers to be honest. I don't have Thomas' measurables but his arms are really long. Longer than Ereck Flower's arms. He has LT type arm length. He has to be 36". Ereck flowers had arms in the 34" range. That lack of hand mastery though is what scares me with the short amount of footage of watched of Andrew Thomas. If you do that at the NFL level you will be beat like a drum. You will be beat like Ereck Flowers. You have to get your hands on your man first and you have to be able to get leverage, and push your man away.
From what I can gather right now, I'm not very impressed with this draft class. If you are in need of a QB this is a good class. If you want stud defensive prospects? Good luck! A lot of the guys rated highly are either not 3-4 EDGE defenders (what we need) or highly rated linebackers, but instead Safeties and CBs. Basically on defense there is Chase Young... then everyone else. We don't need a WR (take Jerry Jeudy off the board). We need guys who get after the QB and guys who protect our QB and help create lanes for our run game. Those are the biggest areas of need. You don't want to be reaching. Get the best player that fills a need on the team.
Grant Delpit does seem to have fantastic football instincts/IQ. He do have Peppers on our team. You want a high impact player who starts every snap when you get a high draft pick. That's a tough sell to me. Plus what good is having elite safeties if your opponents QB has all day in the pocket over and over again. We have to get QB assassins.
Chase Young is a generational type talent. Its unreal how atheletic he is, how he can bend at full speed and change directions. He's incredibly hungry. He tackles QBs like LT once did. Full speed, wraps them up, they don't get away. Awesome hand usage. He just throws tackles around like they don't even matter. His hand usage reminds me of Aaron Donald. That same type of efficiency. I've seen tape where he just throws the LT to his side then tackles the RB trying to run the ball. It's amazing. It will suck so much if the Redskins got him. Wow would that suck.
