You take the highest defensive prospects in a long time:

You need to build the defense around a stud. We aren't far away from having a good team. You absolutely need someone who gets after the QB. We have a lot of CB depth. We have tons of free agency money. Maybe there's a solution at linebacker there. The offensive talent in 2020 has depth. Try getting an OL talent in the 2nd round. If you execute that I think we are set to start winning.
1) They simply are not developed enough. You can blame them for not being prepared. You can blame the coaches for not teaching well enough. They need another year to improve.
and
2) There is no pass rush and that's leaving the CBs to have to cover for too long. That's a deadly combo. You have a bunch of young guys trying to get a hang of a complex playbook, their assignments, etc and no one is reaching the QB. So now the probability that they are exposed increases with every second the QB stands in a clean pocket.
The Giants have invested a lot of draft capital into CBs. The biggest hole on the defense that needs upgrading are the linebackers/pass rush. The Giants like to switch their defensive looks. They run a 3-4 defense but give many 4-3 style looks with guys like Marcus Golden coming off the edge. If they get Chase Young they could use Young as an OLB in a 3-4. Where he's blitzing a lot but can also drop back into zone coverage. He fits that spot that Marcus Golden is used for in those defensive sets with 4 guys on the line, but he can be utilized on the majority of snaps outside of that role.
As for free agency , a lot of teams have money and if you keep Gettleman , your relying on a guy
who has been horrible in free agency , why is that going to change exactly ?
This is a 2-10 team very far away from winning .
A lot of great franchises have had big droughts. The 49ers and Cowboys for instance. The 49ers had to acquire a ton of top 8 picks to amass the roster that they have now. I don't think the Giants are that far off if they get stud players. A guy like Chase Young can really change the franchise. Look at the dominate teams in the NFL, they have outstanding defensive talent that get to the QB. The Giants needed a franchise QB (they got Jones), now they need their franchise defensive player (Chase Young). They can build both sides of the ball around those guys.
