Just some random thoughts on Tua.
- I think Tua's value has big implications for the Giants in this draft. If Tua had not gotten hurt, things might have been a different story right now. Perhaps he'd be in the conversation for #1OA. The good news is that he is looking pretty good right now in his recovery. How he establishes his value between now and draft day is something for Giants fans to keep a close eye on. His Pro Day and private workouts are going to be important.
- I wonder how teams view him in terms of being a LEFTY QB. Does that effect his value at all? Teams need to make a lot of adjustments. Surely if you're going all in a a franchise QB you're going to make those adjustments. If you have a lefty QB do you need a lefty backup? Does your LT become a RT? How does it effect your receivers and their routes? I really dont know. The only successful Lefty QB's that come to mind are Steve Young and Boomer....
-A lot of people seem to tie Tua to the Dolphins. He's expressed interest in Miami but he reportedly has gotten the cold shoulder from the Fins this week.
I think a trade down with the Dolphins or Chargers makes so much sense that the Giants might not even get that great of a return. A trade back of one spot with the Dolphins should get the Giants the Fins #39 pick? This seems like a no brainer. Pick up a great pick and still get the guy we want. OR A trade with the Chargers should get the Giants a bigger return because we then run a little risk of not still getting the guy we want?
There's also the possibility that teams further down the draft board want him. We spend a lot of time thinking about who we like at #4 but who do you like in the middle of the draft? I think that if the Giants are set on drafting an OT then trading down to the middle of the draft makes a lot of sense. Now we're talking about future 1st round picks and possibly a lot more.
Same goes for Herbert. Imagine a double trade down in the first round. Trade down to #5 and then listen for a second trade down?
