I love when it when posters bring up unddrafted or later round picks at rb that have played well. You can find examples at it in every other posistion in the league. There is not one posistion where if you don't draft a player in the first or second round he won't be good. The best offensive player of all time was a 6th round pick lol.
Also, there is no one way to build a winning superbowl team. You can win with a horrible qb and you can win with a great qb. You can win with a dominating defense or you can win with a dominating offense. You can win it with a great rb or a bad rb. Some great wr or some bad ones with a great tight end. You can win it with a great front 4, you can win it with a great linebacking core. Look at the giants in 86/90 2008 and 2012 superbowls. The Teams were built very differently. One of them even won with a back up qb. If there was one formula that worked every team would do it. So just because the great dynsaty the nfl has seen drafted a qb in the 6th round does that mean every team should do it?
But look at what I wrote. 3 of the big RB contributors on the 49ers are undrafted. Don't you see a pattern there? You'd be lucky to find one guy that's undrafted putting a major contribution at a particular position. Explain how 3 guys that are undrafted made the 49ers the #1 rushing offense in football? There's an obvious answer... the offensive line elevated their talent. It happens all the time with the RB position in particular.
I'll give you a prime example. DeMarco Murray on the Dallas Cowboys. Put two epic back to back years in 2013 and 2014. He had 1,121 yards rushing in 2013 and 1,845 yards in 2014. Dallas' offensive line was the best in the league during that period of time. He got traded to the eagles the following year and their offensive line production was terrible compared to Dallas. He put up only 702 yards that season. That's all the Eagles needed to see. They had signed a big 5 year contract with Murray and terminated it after 1 year (you rarely see that). Murray was exposed. Without those massive lanes to run through, he was just a guy. His talent was exposed.
I think it is fair to question taking a RB, any RB, even a HOF RB at 2 overall. If that is somebodies belief and opinion, fine.
But some want to act like THEY would have drafted perfectly. Or they want to act like a Team should always have a perfect draft board.
Go look at any "redraft" article ever written. There are maybe 1 or 2 teams that get it perfect in their first round pick every year. Every other team could have done better. so, why drive yourself nuts with "coulda- shoulda" stuff? You'll be constantly angry every single year if you focus onthe spilled milk aspect and the "coulda shoulda". Focus on the future and the solutions to the current issues.
There is another draft in two days folks.
