Professional sports leagues have the resources to attempt to restrict the potential spread. It's just not going to be a 'perfect' situation. I feel for these guys as the reality is they will be at regular risk for possible transmission every week. But they will be in more structured environments and you can only hope the individual players have enough respect for each other to honor the common sense precautions that we can all take to minimize exposure.
I don't know if the league will get all 16 games in. I personally don't care. I just appreciate having the league potentially play a significant portion of its schedule. The NFL has the luxury of being able to push out its schedule months if it really wants to. They could realistically play into april if they wanted. Part of me feels like they could play regular season games every other week as a precaution......or maybe just add mandatory bye weeks for everyone every 4 weeks or so. It's not like anyone is going to be attending these games en masse.
It's one thing to significantly shut down when there is a breakout in an area. We can't also just shut all of the doors to life either because that creates other issues that are also debilitating and disruptive. We're all in this battle of survival. Part of survival is putting food on the table every day which all of us face. It's not a news flash that this is an extremely challenging situation for everyone.
It's going to be an ongoing battle for all of these leagues. Let's just hope they can function in whatever reduced version we have to accept for now and that the vast majority can remain healthy while we all await reliable treatments/a vaccine.
