The way I read the situation, the Giants are on the hook for an additional 8mm to meet the 35mm in guaranteed dollars. I suspect that there is a better than 50-50 chance that Solder will end up retiring next year. His contract runs thru 2022 which leaves 8mm in prorated signing bonus remaining in terms of CAP hit. According to Spotrac, the Giants currently have 14.7mm in CAP space which includes the savings from Solder opting out of the 2020 season. If Solder should retire next year, depending on the timing of the retirement (before or after June 1st) the Giants would incur 8mm in dead money in 2021 or 4mm in 2021 and 4mm in 2022. Presuming that Solder would wait until after June 1, 2021 to retire, the CAP savings would be 12mm in 2021 and 10mm in 2022. From a cash point of view, the Giants save about 8mm in 2020. Should Solder retire next year, the total additional cash savings would be approximately 20mm. Even if he chooses not to retire in 2021, I strongly suspect that his contract would be restructured into a 2 or three contract.
Sayonara, free agent bust. I hope I never see Solder in a Giants uniform again. He has been a pitiful player for the Giants and his message was definitely a little weird with all the god stuff.
This is the best outcome for the Giants with the cap savings rolling over into next season and A.Thomas can now play LT and gain the necessary experience. I'm not sure what the Giants will do at RT, maybe Fleming, maybe Gates. I don't like starting M.Peart at RT and going with two rookies at OT. Fleming is the best choice, IMO, with Gates competing for the starting job at C.
LT: Thomas LG: Hernandez C: Gates RG: Zeitler RT: Fleming

rodney27: You're right about the fumbling problem, tl65taog. I just don't think it can be fixed. He had in preseason, has it at a record pace now, and had the same problem at Duke. If he hasn't fixed it in all that time...I just don't know if he can.
