With DG, we're at that inflection point. The first DG Coaching regime didn't produce results. DG turned over a lot of the roster during that time......on the balance probably for the overall betterment of the team. It's been a rocky ride. DG is also one of the more stronger personalities at his role and brings a more older school football guy feel to the table which I think bristles a lot of people.
I feel like strides are being made. Granted, we're pretty much at the bottom, so we can only look up at this point. I'm hoping this current Coaching staff yields a tougher, wiser, more competitive team across the board. I think it's encouraging that we have a Centralized HC right now and a separate Offensive and Defensive Coaching oriented staff as opposed to the HC/OC and DC approach. I like that Judge talks about maximizing what your players 'can' do. Not necessarily instilling their philosophy and asking a player whom may not be ideal for that role to fill it. Or wishing they had somebody else on the squad to fulfill the role.
Gettleman is not going to be here a long time. I would be surprised, even if the team were wildly successful the next 2 years, that he will be here much beyond that. As it usually occurs, the next guy is probably being groomed from the inside.
It's been a rough run since the 2011 Super Bowl. There hasn't been much to celebrate for a while. Not many reasons to be inspired by our management lately. There are some signs of potentially emerging talents. Barkley is established. Jones is emerging. There are some interesting DL in our stable...it seems like we're finally trying to supplement the OL.
We can only see what happens this year. And even this year will be a weird one to evaluate. If baseball has been any guide......players will be in and out during the season. Guys that get injured might just eventually mail it in (although in the NFL, you don't get paid by not playing). And the following offseason will surely be unusual with potentially no College Football season.
