There are three areas of major weakness:
(1) no young franchise QB
(2) an awful OL
(3) an awful LB unit
How do you even begin to rebuild this OL? I don't know where to start. No one played well. According to PFF, John Jerry was their best OL. I would pencil him in as the starter at LG.
LT: ?
LG: John Jerry (71.4 grade, average)
C: ?
RG: ?
RT: ?
Flowers looks like a bust (51.5 grade, poor), he can't play LT. He doesn't have the body for guard. There is hope for C.Wheeler, just because he is a rookie and thus might show improvement in his second year, but he was awful in his rookie season (44.2 grade, poor). Halapio was terrible (44.0 grade, poor). DJ Fluker was a bust for the Chargers and he didn't play well for the Giants (42.3 grade, poor). Fluker, Richburg, and Pugh are free agents.
B.Jones might be a free agent too. He didn't play well (63.9 grade, below average). I don't know where you go from here. The Giants basically need four new OL, a starter at RG (I think Jerry fits best on the left side), a starter at LT, a starter at RT, and a starter at C.
Everyone talks about signing OG A.Norwell, but he is one of the best in the game. If the Panthers don't put the franchise tag on him, we are talking about a player who will likely get one of the more lucrative contracts in the game for a guard.
This plan would leave two open starting spots:
LT: Wheeler (hope he shows improvement)
LG: Jerry
C: ?
RG: second round pick
RT: ?
I would look to free agency for a starting C and starting RT. I would also consider drafting a C in the third round. I would move Flowers to RT and let him compete against someone for the starting job.
There is no other way to spin this, though. The OL is a Giant mess!
