What guys besides Fleming could be considered off the scrap heap? Validate yourself. Or maybe just consider better terms. Scrap heap means FA available bc no one wanted them. Fleming may be the only viable to your agenda.
Thomas - rookie
Hernandez - 3rd year player on rookie contract (may be a scrap heap player eventually...but not yet)
Gates - UDFA
Zeitler - player that may be beyond his prime...not a FA pickup
Fleming - FA no one elese may have wanted.
So 1 player fits your agenda, yet you post as if they all fit it. Just curious if you could please explain your stance further. We all would appreciate the content.
"Gates - UDFA": What does UDFA stand for? UN-DRAFTED (not one of the 32 NFL teams was willing to use one of their seven picks on him) FREE AGENT (Do I need to explain what a free agent is?).
"Zeitler - player that may be beyond his prime...not a FA pickup": No, not "a FA pickup"...just - essentially - a player to be named later. An afterthought. If the Browns had wanted Zeitler, then he would not have been part of the trade. Nobody was walking away from the table because of the inclusion or exclusion of Kevin Zeitler.
"Fleming - FA no one else may have wanted": FA no one else wanted.
Allow me to add a name to the list...Nate Solder. An FA that Gettleman grossly overpaid. If Belichick had wanted him, then he'd still be playing in New England. Instead, Bill Belichick is probably still snickering over that con job.
