There is no longer a debate on the matter--Schoen demonstrated complete incompetence in putting this OL together. He had multiple picks to improve the OL and he failed with every pick. Neal had another disaster of a game against the Eagles, lowering his PFF grade on the year to 45.6. He has shown no improvement as the season has gone on--he is as bad now as he was in game 1. Ezedudu has also been a train wreck with a grade of 46.0. Some GMs are able to improve the OL through the rookie draft class, and we have to wonder why the Giants GM couldn't do this.
Schoen's free agent signings were awful as well. Sure, he didn't have a lot of money to work with and so this is somewhat understandable. The bigger concern is Schoen's inability to improve the OL through the draft. Also, I don't want to hear the Neal-A.Thomas comparisons. Thomas wasn't great in his rookie season (62.4 grade) but he was at least decent or close to decent. In contrast, Neal is completely overwhelmed each week.
Schoen's incompetence with the OL is the biggest disappointment for me this season. I was hoping to see Jones play behind a much improved OL, but I didn't get to see that.
Just imagine if the Giants had a GM who could have improved the team through the draft. In that scenario, maybe the Giants take G.Wilson over Neal, Wilson is a complete stud at WR (81.0 grade) and A.Lucas a RT in the third round (67.6 grade). In this scenario, the Giants would have a major weapon at WR while greatly improving the OL with Lucas at RT. Thus, two major weaknesses, the OL and WR unit, could have been addressed through better drafting.
Ezeudu has had some injury issues; but there's no denying he made a quantum leap in pass protection between September and November. He's already better than Glowinski, and he'll just get better.
The whiffs that Shoen has made are definitely Glowinski as a free agent, and Feliciano as a one year stop gap. Glowinski is going to be a $6 mil backup intil he's cut, and Feliciano shouldn't survive through to next year.
McKethan we haven't really seen but he was a later draft pick, and if he develops, great. If not, it didn't cost much to try him out.
