Big Blue and Peppers how could you tell if Nelson will be that perennial All Pro for 8-10 years ? What's to say he doesn't get hurt, where was the guarantee he would become that good for that long ? It's not like we haven't seen OL get that king of press before, Tony Manadrich, Robert Galley, hell the OG the Giants drafted in the 70's from Ohio State whose name escapes me now, John somebody. What happens if he just developed into someone like Scherff for the Skins, better than any OG we have but not an All Pro every year.
The LT spot, which is supposed to be the prime OL position rarely goes as high as 2 and when they do it's because their prime responsibility is protecting the QB's blind side.
If anything you can probably make a case for DG's ability to spot OL talent because he signed an undrafted Norwell, who became the stud for Carolina. He may have drafted a pair of bookend OTs in this past draft.
Callie you keep referring to him misjudging the rebuild vs. retool philosophy but if you go back to the end of the 2017 season, we came off 11-5 and a playoff season, fell to 3-13 and again if you look at 3-13 the first loss Eli didn't get a chance to win the game because of a muffed punt and we lost 2 other early games by last minute fgs when the D couldn't hold a lead Eli gave them. Then came the injuries. Sure if you just look at 3-13 it looks like a rebuild was needed but you had Eli, OBJ, Shepard, a younger Jack Rabbit, if you look into the losses and not just the W's and L's you can't see how someone might think when we're healthy again and if we add a RB version of OBJ, someone who can take it to the house every time he touches the ball and build the OL through FA and the draft, Solder and Hernandez, that this could be seen as a retool ? It's not like the team was devoid of talent.
High level, bottom line with only the numbers of W's that count you're all right. Digging a little deeper maybe not as clear cut as you make it sound. Hell Callie even you said this year 7 or 8 wins with an improved product would be considered a success.
But regardless without that improvement, much harder now without Saquon, DG is a goner. He does not get a pass for morale victories, he does not get a pass because Saquon is hurt. We need to see a solid OL by December and developmet from Carter, X Man and our young DBs for him to get a reprieve.
