It's here. Finally. The end of a very difficult season. Lets not go through the handful of games we should of won, there are about five! When you lose that many close games sometimes it's coaching... sometimes it's just lacking that one more explosive player.
This year shall be different! In the past the Official Draft Thread has run 60 + pages covering every single prospect who fits the Giants mold. Not this year! Due to travel restrictions I will be unable to visit any Pro Days, even the local ones and those days may not even happen anyway. Because so many players opted out some names will be judged over plays they made or didn't make over a year ago. I think there will be natural prejudice to favor guys that played this year and got our attention.
The Combine then is going to me more like a reality show Survivor-like, returning after 1 year past favorites vs New Originals...
How are we going to draft this year? It may surprise you. There may be some redundancy based on Folks who my be leaving us rather soon. Overall my aim will be to bring us 1) A Great New Receiver 2) An Addition or two to our D line 3) A new offensive line addition 4) A starting cornerback 5) Possibly a new Tight End 6) Possibly a safety.
No I will not be drafting a QB although it's a great year for that in our current position of eleven.
Back to the length of the thread. My aim will be to keep this very tight-- 20-25 pages of just the very best the college draft has to offer The Giants Best Prospects viewed from our usual smoke-filed glasses.
OK LETS GET INTO IT!!!!-- MEET Christian Baremore <------DT ALA.
Right off the bat I have a huge surprise. A name I doubt anyone has as high as me. I mean you have to be quite high to come up with this pick and to the average Giant fan it will seem strange. Why draft into a strength when you could fill a weakness on the team? My feeling is the Giants most pressing off season move is to resign Dalvin Tomlinson. Franchise LW & Sign Tomlinson-! But that doesn't mean we stop adding great D linemen.
WE are going to hear a lot about Gregory Rousseau Miami Fl Edge.
I like Gregory a ton. For sure he will be on my 1st round list. " Raw " will be the adj most used with Rousseau and that bothers me. I might want someone who has really refined his game.
I wrote bit about this Alabama player in a recent. thread, Christian Barmore Alabama -DL1T. It's so early I have no idea if my inkling is correct but I think this guy will come out of nowhere and be a top 10 or so pick!
You see Christian is listed as a 1 Technique but I see him playing 5 Technique with the Giants.
-5 technique – An alignment and technique designation for defensive linemen. A 5 technique player is commonly a defensive end in a 3-4 front, and aligns directly across from the offensive tackle. The player is responsible for the two gaps (B & C) on either side of the offensive tackle.
THIS IS RIGHT NOW A BIG REACH! Barmore started the season listed as a Top 50 player! So it's through word of mouth and some inside sources that I feel this ranking is wrong. I see Barmore as 11-15 area. This is the 1st year as a full time starter for Barmore so his legs are VERY fresh. This is like buying a used car with LOW miles. He reminds one of a tougher Quinnen Williams Much tougher. Barmore possesses elite explosiveness and the ability to consistently disrupt the line of scrimmage. While his explosiveness is his best trait for sure, his ability to win with power and violent hands also stands out.
HANDS-- I have to say of all the guys I have looked at the past eight ten years, Barmore may have the best hands!
Christian creates problems with his explosiveness off the snap, he may not get to the quarterback every play, but he’s getting him off his spot. Consistently forcing the quarterback out of the pocket and stopping him from stepping up. Bottom Line--he is just a tough tough guy to move off his spot. This guy is super strong. Takes on double teams with aplomb, tosses around linemen like rag dolls-- he is quick. Like Sexy Dexy, Barmore can go get it! He can put his foot in the ground and turn the corner, EXTREMELY Dangerous on stunts, takes an excellent track to the quarterback. Extremely springy, can bounce between gaps.
Has experience coming in on Passing Downs from 2019 used to rotation which I think fits the Giants well. Very high effort player, he never quits on a play-
Barmore had the highest pass-rush win rate among all defensive tackles in 2019, according to PFF. This year he has improved every game. Constantly draws double teams and it does not effect is play at all.
In the updated CBS Sports prospect rankings, Barmore is ranked No. 27. <--- So I am not THAT far off if he continues to climb.
Barmore is a massive man standing at 6’5 and weighing 315 pounds. He is built and has a motor. He is not a fat 300 pounds, he is a force at the position with great size.
Players with size and speed are in need!. They are not the easiest to find. Big defensive lineman that can move are like buried treasures. Barmore is that type of player. Barmore loves taking on double teams and eating them up. He is so strong, so teams struggle even with two players trying to slow him down.
His versatility is going to be key for him. He can play either 1 or 3 tech. Or I think 5.<----
Back To The Hand strikes- hands. Consistently wins with his fast and powerful hands. He easily overpowers offensive lineman with his overwhelming size at 6’5″ and 310 pounds.
In his second year as a contributor, Christian saw his sack total jump from two to six in 2020. He's also forced three fumbles. His tall thick frame along with his long arms might have the Giants thinking he would be a perfect addition as a five-technique. Unusually long. Barmore’s swim move is beautiful, from either arm he quickly scoots past blockers. For such a big guy he is LONG like an edge player.
It is very early in the process and guys move up. Locking in on a WR now may be risky. Taking the very Raw Gregory Rousseau may be risky... Taking a good long look at Christian Barmore may be very wise indeed!. ~si
NEXT UP--> Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, linebacker, Notre Dame-!
