This topic has been beat to death but this may of been the best explanation of how the Giants may actually approach the draft. It actually has made the most sense so far out of everything I have read and listened too a giants caller did call in asking Pat Kirwan what he thinks the Giants do at 6
He said we really don’t know who the Giants like. Quarterback is definitely in the cards but doesn’t believe the Giants take one at 6 unless the QB they like falls to them which he feels will not happen. He thinks at 6 the Giants go WR or the TE from Georgia.
He thinks for any team other than the top 3 picking it really depends on picks 4 and 5. If a team values the next 3 QBs or any of them high enough they have to get to 4 and he does believe the team that has the best shot at that is the Vikings because of 2 picks round 1 and the Giants picking 6. He didn’t say weather he feels the next 3 Quarterbacks should be taken there or not but he did say that the Vikings, Broncos and Raiders probably will go quarterback as well. At least 2 of them. Vikings and Broncos.
What Kirwan thinks the Giants likely will do is stay at 6 if there Qb is taken and go WR. They probably have a spot where if a guy like Peniux or Nix is still there like 20-25 they probably will try to move back into round 1 a get him to get that guy and the 5th year option.
In other words the Giants go quarterback by trading up or back. But if they stay at 6 it’s probably a WR.
Thinking this way is interesting. There is no guarantee in how the draft u folds. Miller gave his input and sided with Kirwan on Penuix saying the ball comes out very fast. And that is something that Quarterback evaluators really like from a young quarterback. Miller used his QB days with the Bears vs that Tampa 2 D they had back then. Miller said he has to get the ball out quickly because he knew the blocking just wouldn’t hold up. 1st read to 3rd ball out. Something that QBs like Carr in the day struggled with and others today. There international clock is something these quarterbacks just don’t have. Carr took a ton of sacks as a Texan but a lot of that was him just holding the ball to long. It wasn’t all on the offensive line
This is something I have been beating like a drum the last 3 years on Jones. He has to get that ball out quickly and understand what’s going on in front of him. Jones health is also a concern and will he ever get good enough to elevate those around him.
Ok so now. What do the Giants do.
If they have the next 3 guys pretty close to eachother and the Vikings do not jump ahead of them. I do believe they have kept lines of communication open with the Vikings, Broncos and Raiders to potentially move back and let that team take a QB ahead of them Force Denver to jump them at 11 or just take the next guy there.
Kirwan believes that Peyton in Denver will probably love a guy like Peniux because he will stay in the pocket and get the ball out quickly and keep on schedule. Kirwan believes Peniux will be a Bronco. Now do the Giants or Vikings like McCarthey enough to pick him at 4 5 or 6? Maybe. The Vikings are more desperate
I personally believe that they have the 2 picks in round 1 not to get ahead of the Giants but to get in that 7-9 range to get there guy. Quarterbacks will go as follows
1. Daniel’s. Bears. Yes
2. Williams Washington
3. Maye. Patriots
8. Vs trade Vikings. McCarthey
12 Peniux. Broncos
28 Nix Giants va Trade with the Bills
The Vikings by doing this only gives up a second round pick
Giants at 6 that the LSU receiver Nabers
