I am, generally speaking, a supporter of management. But, with qualifications and recognition that my views are limited, I see a mess.
1. As the draft approaches the no.2 gone in the Burns trade looms large. So does the 30 million dollars in cap space. This man is being paid as the best rusher in the league...and while he's good he's not in that class.
But the trade limits and sends a confused message. We can't, IMHO, consider a qb. And it's not just the lost draft capital, if you invest in a qb that puts you in a rebuild, and that makes the acquistion of Burns a confusing detriment.
A no.2 and what thirty million in cap space would buy you...way too high a price.
2. Kafka, Wink...they've both had personal problems with Davoli. Nothing to issue a hard indictment over, but it's something to watch. And saying Wink is a hard case and tough to work with ...doesn't get mgmt. off the hook, afterall, they hired him.
3. Waller...why are they letting this drag out.? Draft day is close, they need a decision. Just more uncertainty.
4. The more that leaks out, the more the debacle of two years of sub sub-standard of line play stands out and irritates.
We watch guys leave and play at near pro bowl standards after being bums wearing the blue. After season evaluations emphasize a glaring point: we just witnessed one of the worst O line performances in recent history and not just for the G Men...for the league.
There no pass here and blaming the coaches fired is passing the buck.
5. Is Neal a guard? A swing tackle,? coming to camp and competing?
They signed a very good offensive right tackle and they have a good swing man coming bak. Tackles historicaally (including the two best of modern times in Orlando Pace and Ogden) learned at guard and switched to tackle. It looks like the plan is to let Neal compete for the job at ORT. Doesn't work. What do you do with the loser? You can't have the new guy sit, You can't let the fifth pick two years ago sit. I don't see a plan just a muddling non decision.
I'm a fan and I'm venting. Doesn't mean a damn word here is valid. Next year will define that, but right now I'm unhappy and much unhappier than Gettleman ever made me.
